The Ravindra Bhavan at Baina, Vasco Da Gama was inaugurated on 12th Dec. This centre that would provide state of the art facility for music, dance and theatre fulfils a much felt need of this port town. This project commenced in 2007 and went through several hiccups and delays that has resulted in cost overruns. Nevertheless the final outcome will benefit the artistes and audiences of this town.
The centrally air-conditioned main auditorium has a capacity of 768 seats that includes seating for 177 on the balcony. The ground floor of the Bhavan also houses an Art Gallery, two green rooms, snack counters and adequate restroom facility.. The first floor has a mini theatre with 170 seats, one rehearsal room, Projector room, Baby crying rooms, snack counters and restrooms. The second floor houses two rehearsal rooms, a conference room of 66 seat capacity and restrooms. The building adjacent to the main block has the administrative office, a cafeteria, two ladies dormitory rooms, one gents dormitory room, and three guest rooms.
The complex has parking facility for 48 vehicles.
Budding fine artists, theatre artists and musicians of this neighbourhood can now utilise this facility to showcase their talent for the benefit of the art and culture lovers of this town.
The Ravindra Bhavan was inaugurated by Min for Art and Culture Shri Dayanand Mandrekar. The other dignitaries present were the Min for Power Shri Milind Naik, MLA Vasco Shri Carlos Almeida, MLA Dabolim Shri Mauvin Godinho, Director Art andd Culture Prasad Lolienkar, Chairperson MMC Sumita Usgaonkar, Chairman MPDA Krishna Salkar and industrialist Shri Narayan Bandekar. A series of programmes have been scheduled at this Ravindra Bhavan which is open to the public.
